The village/parish of Água de Pau was elevated to the category of village by Regional Legislative Decree No. 29/2003/A. It has an area of 17.43 km² and about 3000 inhabitants, with a population density of 175.4 inhabitants/km². A large part of its population is dedicated to agriculture and cattle raising, and it is also worth noting the number of those who work in construction, services and commerce. Handicrafts are strongly established in the locality, with wicker and weaving work being highlighted.
