The population density is 110.4 inhabitants per km². It is at a fairly high altitude. Currently, the parish of Porto Formoso, has undergone major transformations in its landscape. The Regional Government of the Azores sponsored a work that changed the way the Fishing Port was presented in sand, and one of the most curious within its genre Autonomous Region of the Azores. The Praia dos Moinhos, was also subject to changes, having been added to it bathhouses of avant-garde architecture, by virtue of a work was carried out by the Municipality of Ribeira Grande, then chaired by Mr. Ricardo Silva.
